Arbor Day is Friday April 27th
Friday is Arbor Day here in the USA and it's a tradition to plant a new tree on this day. But, do you know the benefits that planting just one tree can provide?
Trees have been called the "low tech" solution to energy problems. Here in the desert southwest, planting a large shade tree on the west side of our home can reduce summer cooling costs by up to 35% while helping to fight climate change. Another great idea is to plant a tree to shade your air conditioner unit to keep it cooler and running more efficiently. If you can plant one to shade your patio, you'll extend the time you can enjoy outdoor dining.
Last year's devastating wild fires in northern AZ have the forest workers planting thousands of trees to try to help avoid the soil erosion run off which will occur once our summer monsoon season starts. They are also working to restore the wonderful ecosystem trees naturally provide. Did you know that the USA has an "official national tree?" It's the mighty oak.
