Are Real Estate Conferences Getting Too Expensive to Attend?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with RES.NET

There are so many real estate conferences out there now, and almost all of them provide something valuable. Some provide discounts if you register early enough, but most require a significant fee to attend.

We have been attending events since RES.NET was created. Over the years we have been to some great conferences, and some not so good conferences. At each one however, we saw some unique offerings, and discovered things that worked, and things that didn’t.

So which events are the best?

It all depends on what your end goal is, but there are a few that we enjoy. This of course is not an exhaustive list, but just a few events that stand out.

·         The Five Star Conference and Expo is probably the biggest conference for the distressed industry, and covers both REO and Short Sale.

·         REO Expo is perfect for those specializing in REO

·         Inman Agent Reboot is a great conference to attend to learn about what the new technology is out there.

·         NAHREP National Convention is one of many national organizational events held throughout the year, and always has great networking opportunities, and is in the wonderful location of Los Angeles.

RES.NET and FORCE join for Summer Summit 2012

Because of our combined experiences, and because of our similar thoughts on issues of the day, RES.NET and FORCE came together early this year to start planning an entirely new kind of industry conference. The result was Summer Summit 2012. We decided to design an event that doesn’t require a huge financial commitment to attend, because we know that in these tough economic times, there’s no way to attend every meaningful event in the industry, so we created and event that can’t be missed. This members-only event (FORCE or RES.NET Professional) combines high-powered, cutting-edge education on everything REO and Short Sale with the networking opportunities that grow businesses.

Already committed to attending are such companies as:

A full list of attendees can be found on the website at www.summersummit2012.com.

Summer Summit is being held June 3-5 in Grapevine, TX at the Gaylord Texan.

More information about the event can be found at www.summersummit2012.com.

It is too expensive if you attend them all.  Picking which work best for your business.

@Tim - For sure! You definitely need to pick and choose what works for you and your business.

@Matt- When choosing conferences, it almost helps to pre-plan what YOU want to get out of something, and then find the conferences that will best do that for you.

Yes budget constraint's apply, I choose to attend those that do not cost more than XXX amount of dollars, many of the conferences get out of hand when you have to include airfare, hotel, meals, tips, cost of commuting to & from, plus babysitters and the conference event cost etc.

One of my favorites is Triple Play. It's held early December in Atlantic City and agents from NY, NJ, PA, and surrounding states attend.

If you are attending all of them...  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you probably aren't selling much real estate.

I agree, it is hard to attend all of them.  I try to attend  The Five Star every year.  This year has a great line up of speakers, President George W and Laura, President Bill Clinton, James Carville and Mary Matalin.  I'm looking at my resources and schedule to see if I can make this happen.

They are a bit pricey.  If you have to travel across the country and then pay for lodging and meals it can add up quickly.  I guess the bottom line is where will get the most bang for the buck?  Everyone promises something good, but results are the real benefit.  Which ones deliver the most results for the promises made?

A few years ago i went on a CIPS cruise.. it was a blast.. it was expensive.. I learned a lot.. made some good contacts.. but i never finished the CIPS designation.. but it was FUN!! I knew that going in though..

Its amazing how luck we are in the NY area... We have one of the best conventions in December each year...its called Triple Play held in AC.  Great spot and some of the best trainers, speakers, etc are there .... shame more agents dont take advantage...At Real Living Five Corners is a must and our agents who do attend are the ones who are selling more homes and getting more listings!

Have a great J

Pauline,

I am considering this event, but want to make sure not a waste of time or $$$. I am trying to get REO assignments (done plenty of shorts and some BPO work, but REO seems to be ellusive....have 1 now) Would the contacts be worth the trip?

Hi Shane!

I think this is a great conference to attend if you're looking to get more REO assignments. One of the unique aspects of Summer Summit is the Networking Hall, which has actual representatives from various servicers who you can meet with. They'll all be conducting meetings and interviews, so it's just a matter of getting in and introducing yourself. You never know if they're looking for a new agent in your area! At the very least, you'll be able to find out how to become one of their preferred agents, or get on a list if they have one.

Addtionally, we at RES.NET will be hosting a ton of informative panels, and FORCE will as well.

Let me know if you'd like any additional information about Summer Summit and I'll be more than happy to help you out. You can email me at any time at pauline.perenack@res.net or call me at 949-206-5345.
