STOP! Get Back to Real Estate: Don’t Waste Time With Social Networking

You are sitting there on yet another Thursday evening reading a tutorial on how to build your Twitter followers. Or maybe this time it is an article about how to get your YouTube videos to post on your blog. It could be a Facebook page or a LinkedIn post... And you are thinking to yourself, “Why does this all have to be so difficult? Why can’t I just get back to real estate?”

As a busy real estate professional, with luxury properties and high-end clients, you need an online presence that matches your level of service. You know that you can’t sell ‘Beverly Hills’ with a ‘10th street’ style website but you simply don’t have the time to get your internet presence together. You don’t even have time to figure out that first step and it seems that every day there’s another social network… another application… another way of marketing on the internet and you just don’t have the time to keep up with it all.

You can spend all the time in the world learning how to market yourself online with social networks, social media, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google search engine results etc. etc. or you can hire a professional to do it for you. Without going too much into detail (because I am telling you this to make an important and dramatic point) it takes me about one full month to setup a new real estate client with a website, blog, Facebook page, twitter account, YouTube channel, LinkedIn account, and then automate the entire process of social networking. That is without reading tutorials, without watching videos and without fumbling through unfamiliar processes. That time is spent by someone who knows exactly what they are doing, has done it over and over, knows how to optimize the content for search engines, knows how to use anchor text linking, understands how the social networks work together and just does it. 

If it takes me a month, how much time would it take you?

Answer: How much time do you have? 

Really. I am not saying that to be funny either. Think about that. Or look at it this way. Why do homeowners hire you to sell a home and pay thousands to brokers and agents in the process? Is it… because they got ‘suckered’ into it… or… is it because YOU know what you are doing? They are paying for expertise. They are paying for peace of mind. They are paying YOU to save time. Who really wants to sell their own house? People do it all the time because they want to save money. 

Am I right? 

And then when do they call you? They call you when they realize it’s costing them time… they are getting frustrated… and as a result it is costing them more time and more money in the long run. They just want to sell their home and get back to their career, get back to their life, and save some money in the process.

I thought I couldn't promote myself but then, that's what its for. Ha... You make some excellent points and you're right... we do need to find SOME time and money to devote to this or we are just spinning our wheels out there in la la land without reeling in any real customer. thanks tammy.. yes.. you are right... when I first started on AR 6 years ago i found that if i included certain language in my posts that I would get comments asking if I posted it as an advertisement. so, over the years I just got into the habit of adding that at the end of my AR posts with commercial intent.. I think it might be time to break the habit now that im getting opposite comments... lol...  thank you for the wake up call ;)
