It seems I almost always have a special story and a special bond with my clients by the time a short sale is completed. Afterall, my clients are basically opening up their world to a complete stranger and trusting that stranger that they have their back over the next 6 months or so. It's not just your normal listing appointment and agreement. It is a clients world being completely turned upside down.

I always put myself in my clients shoes. The guts it takes to make that first phone call, knowing the inevitable of losing their home. So the phone call comes in and my first goal is always to make the client feel at ease. I know this is not an easy thing and it's going to take some time to get that client to trust me. I don't rush the client on the phone. I let them talk to me and tell me their story.

This particular family really touched my heart when I met with them the next week. The most adorable young couple and young family you could imagine. 2 small children and parents that knew they were taking on the daunting task of upsetting their childrens lives. I see the fear in their eyes and hear the crackle in their voice. Hours have been cut due to the slowing economy and they've exhausted their savings trying to keep afloat. My job is to make them feel at ease and explain to them that I've successfuly closed hundreds of transactions. Many clients feel that they are alone but I assure them they are not.

When I meet with them and sit at the kitchen table and explain the process and give them time to take it all in, ask questions and not rush them....I think this is the breakthrough moment for most clients when they learn to trust that I'm here to help them resolve a difficult situation. Afterall, it's not easy losing your home. I find I have a special knack when it comes to listening and retaining information. I don't rush my clients or let my phone or text go off during the meeting. They have my undivided attention because they need to be heard and understood.  I want to help people and am genuine and thoughful in my approach.

By the end of our first appointment the couple both gave me hugs. Wow I thought. This is a first. But they were so thankful for the information I provided and now knew they had help. We successfully closed on their short sale listing as scheduled and we got them $3000 in relocation assistance. I also found them a fantastic and beautiful rental property with a rock pool. The whole family is actually excited about their move, their new place they can call home and kids that will have a pool to play in this summer. It's a big relief for them and extremely gratifying for me. Short sales are what you make of them. It is my job to make sure my clients have as stressfree experience as possible.
