Homeowner Insurance: Getting the Best Quote

Too many people will find the most obscure, no-name insurance companies in order to get the cheapest deal and find out later that the company doesn’t pay on insurance claims!

Bottom Line: It’s a great idea to apply for online quotes from different companies, but before you move forward make sure you look up consumer opinions to make sure the company is legit!

Don’t worry if you find a company with a couple of bad reviews/complaints… any insurance company that’s been around for a while will have a number of complaints. (They just won’t be nearly as many as the truly “bad” ones!)

Tips To Help You Get The Best Possible Rate

Pay attention to the following when you’re applying for quotes:

  •  Try to put enough money aside so you can get a higher deductible. This will decrease your yearly premium tremendously!

The biggest problem that I see as an attorney is that the best quote isn't always the cheapest, but what is fair and does what it supposed to do.  In any event.....there are a lot of cheap quotes, but they don't cover what you really need covered!

Larry, that is correct - you should always compare what is covered.  I hate insurance.  My Mom sold Farmer's for years, I had all my policies there for years.  Funny how after 25 years when I went to change companies due to increases in rates they could careless. I had at least 6 policies at that time.  I have had Geico and FATCO now for 10 years and when my husband moves back home and we only have a house in one state we are going to switch to Allstate.

Good post Jo! as a broker that has hundreds of companies available, we see the good, the bad and the ugly on Insurance. I too grew up in a Farmer's household.  We provide every new home-buyer with 5 or more quotes to choose from to show them all their options available.

In may cases with coastal (hurricanes, fire & earthquake zone), the big companies will not write insurance for those homes. so homeowners are forced to go with smaller regional carriers.
