Never Give Up Whenever Facing The Giants
I have thought long and hard about an entry for this contest, and I have finally come up with a movie I can relate to my real estate experiences over the years. There have been many obstacles to face in this industry from start to present. Therefore, the theme and movie I have chosen to share my story is “Facing the Giants”.
In case you haven’t seen this movie, “Facing the Giants”, it is the story of Grant Taylor, a high school football coach with a mediocre record. After several poor seasons, the Shiloh Eagles are considering replacing him as head coach. This is not the only problem Taylor is facing; his car is breaking down, the players' fathers are trying to get him fired, and he discovers that he is the reason that his wife Brooke cannot become pregnant.
In order to find a solution to these problems, he prays to God for help. He creates a new coaching philosophy and decides to praise God after each game, no matter what the result. At the same time he guides and urges each one of his players to give the maximum effort, and motivates them to believe they can win under God's guidance. From that point on, he loses only one game but eventually goes on to win the state championship due to their 1st playoffs opponent being disqualified. His prayers for children are also answered when he and his wife have two children of their own.
Now, my story started back in 2001 while I was still working as the Night Lab Operations Manager for a local Laboratory Company. I was informed by my supervisor that my position and many others would be eliminated, and I realized that I would need to find another job, or look for another way to earn a living. That was the first Giant I had to face, and the reason I decided to get into real estate. I can truly say that there have been obstacles through the years in my real estate business.
Some of the other Giants that I had to face were learning how to deal with all the ups and downs of being self-employed, trying to save deals gone bad, losing deals for various reasons, overcoming a wrongful lawsuit, failing with my first investment property, dealing with the threat of cancer with my wife, living with diabetes and other health issues. Like the football coach in “Facing the Giants”, I prayed to God for help too. As a family, we have survived every obstacle that has come our way. I had always remembered a saying that I had seen years ago, “Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off Christ, Jesus”.
Therefore, I had learned that prayer should always be our first choice, and not our last hope. God does answer prayer, and we can all overcome any Giants that we face when we remember that “the battle belongs to the Lord”. He only asks that we believe, have faith in him, and trust him for the outcome. When we start to “Praise God” and make him first in our lives, we have the confidence that we can overcome any Giant. I am thankful that I am still able to pursue my dream and my passion in real estate with the help of my Lord and Savior. Never Give Up Whenever you have to face any Giants.
