One thing's for sure, here in beautiful north Idaho water is the main attraction. Whether living on one of our pristine lakes or rivers, enjoying some water sports or just taking in the million dollar views, folks here revel in the water all year around.
Our waters are at annual high levels right now, which made for some interesting sights around town this weekend. Here are some great photos that were snapped by my sister, Kerri Thoreson. I snapped a few myself, but hers are just plain better!
The first photo is of City Beach in downtown Coeur d'Alene. The lake covers most of the sandy beach and has risen almost to the sea wall. The lifeguard stands are now sticking their toes into the chilly drink! You can't see it from this angle, but the water level is all the way to the top concrete step along the western edge of Independence Point. Officially the water level right now is up about 6 feet from normal summer levels.

The Public Beach sign is nearly submerged at the 15th Street beach access at Sanders Beach on E. Lakeshore Drive.

What an impressive flow of water! The Spokane River flows from Lake Coer d'Alene through the dam at Post Falls. In this picture, the water isn't exactly falling, it's blasting through those floodgates at 35,000 cubic inches of water per second!
