Email from loved ones

Have you ever received an email that offended you in one way or another from a friend or family member?

What do you do to stop receiving that type of emails?

Do you answer with rage or anger?Mom & Dad Christmas 2007 c judy tuscano

I was at a party for my extended family yesterday and asked my nieces, nephews, brothers, etc. for their email addresses in order to improve communication in our family. While most were more than willing to share, some were quite reluctant.

Perhaps they have had some bad experiences so I decided to write an email to all who shared their addresses with me. The context of my message is below.

Hello All,

So far these are the email addresses I have for this xxxxxxxx clan.

As we found out yesterday, we need some improvement on the communication in our family so if you click on each address above you should be able to add them to your address book.

Dad c judy tuscanoThere are so many times I want to share something with you and have had to depend upon Mom to pass on the information, now we can be more direct and specific with our news, encouragement, event planning, etc. Please pass this on to those you have addresses for and ask them to get their address to us all.

If you choose not to receive certain types of email please say so in a courteous manner and I for one will gladly respect your request and keep it to family business etc. If by some chance you do receive an offensive email, please remember that we are family and send a specific email to the offender and ask not to receive more in a manner reflecting love. Thanks.

I wanted to let you all know that I am so glad we had the day together yesterday and I look forward to more gatherings. I know that our lives are busy and crowded with requests and demands upon our time but we should also remember that we only have a certain number of days on this earth together so we should make the most of them.Heather, Kayla, Trisha c judy tuscano

Our friend, Jay McGillicuddy, has recently employed the power of the Internet to help him find his birth mother. Here is the link to his wife's blog to read if you are interested. Click Here.

I am happy to report that yesterday while we were driving home from the party we got a call from Jay letting us know he found her. More news to follow.

Now I am hoping that my family understands what to do if they are offended by an email from a family member or friend. When all else fails I say just DELETE it. What do you think?

Moni,  Our family has had a few things going on like my brother had surgery and i didn't find out til afterwards etc.(He is ok and it wasn't major but it would have been nice to know) It is so important to keep in touch, after all we only have one family. You are welcome for the link. We do not have plans for New Year's Eve. Are you guys planning your trip to Germany yet?

Hi Judy - My family just does not email... I wish we were closer, but we're not. I hope you and your family have a wonderful, prosperous New Year! I'm glad I met you.

Hi Judy - most of my immediate family uses email, some more frequently than others.  I have one sister who just, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to care much about it.  She has kids, and I know they know how to use a computer, and she's a teacher.  I've tried several times to help her get with it, but she just laughs it off.  In my opinion, she misses so much by not having email.  But what can you do......

And delete works beautifully for me, too!

Happy New Year!
Ann

Judy,

My 80 year old mother in law always keeps in touch via email. I wish most of my family did the same, it is a wonderful way to communicate our interests, ideas, and funny things that happen on the road of life.

Happy New Year

Judy, I think delete is the best course of action from an offending emails.  Personally I try to be careful about everything I put in writing.  You just never know when you might send something out to the wrong person. Right before our son went to Iraq I sent him an email about his finances (or lack of); I inadvertently sent it to the entire prayer group I had set up for him while he was in Iraq.  I think he was the only one that didn't get the email.  Oh well what 20 year old has money, lesson learned for me though!

Nicholas - My mother now 75 uses email too but it befuddles me the young people that don't??? I think it is a great way for friends and families to keep in touch in the business of life as each person can read and send email on their own schedule. Happy New Year and thanks for stopping by.

Ann - I've had a few emails from others that were really harsh regarding something I may have forwarded. It just seems we can't keep track of each persons personal agenda so if they get offended at least be polite in responding or just delete it. Happy New Year to you too Ann.

Linda - These past few months getting to know some people here on AR has been like a whole new world opened up to me. I'm glad to have met you and others here and look forward to sharing more in 2008. Happy New Year.

Moni - I know expenses are great but I do believe that this opportunity has opened up for you and Jay so some how some way the Lord will make a way for you to see Klara. Perhaps she can come here???? What's your plan for New Year's Eve?

Marchel - I too learned the hard way about things put into writing getting to the wrong person. I had sent something regarding an event to keep people on the same page and one person it was not intended for got it forwarded to them and that person took offense. Well for about a year there was tension even after explaination and apologies. Thanks for stopping by and I wish you a Happy New Year.

Alexander - It is shocking to get a reply that screams out offense rather than a reply that asks politely to not send or forward email of that nature. I say just delete and forget it knowing that the person that sent it didn't deliberately set out to offend.

It is great about Jay finding his birth Mother. Thanks for commenting Alexander. Happy New Year.

Monika - Happy New Year to you and Jay. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner with you guys also. You are some of my favorite people to hang out with and it felt right cheering in a New Year with good friends.

Good information. Delete is a powerful weapon used by all. It makes no sense to use vulgar language to get your point across.

Robert - No sense in getting upset because someone has a different point of view. If one can not agree to disagree then just delete. Thanks for stopping by and Happy New Year.

Monika - Happy 2008 to you also. I'm glad to hear things are starting out well for you and Jay. Did you put that condo U/A? Did Jay speak with his family in Germany again?
