Last Week to See Renoir

I just returned from the Renoir Landscapes exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It really is a must see if you are in the Philadelphia area. The exhibit includes 60 paintings from public and private collections of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, the French Impressionist. The paintings are of landscapes and seascapes completed during the early decades of his career (1870's) through the time nearing his death (1919). Paintings were inspired by landscapes in his native France as well as his travels to Italy and Algeria.

This is the final week to see the exhibit. It runs through January 6th. Today was especially crowded, as I expect the final weekend will be as well. You can purchase timed tickets on-line at the museum's website, www.philamuseum.org. The museum (and exhibit) are open both New Year's Eve day and New Year's day from 10 am until 5 pm.

If you can't make it to Renoir Landscapes, consider attending the museum's next special exhibit of portraits by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. It runs from February 20th through May 18th.

Glad you enjoyed your visit. It is definitely a world class art museum. We are lucky to have access to so many cultural attractions in the Philadelphia area.
