We recently spent a couple of days in Charleston, South Carolina and while there toured Magnolia Gardens. The Azaleas were in bloom at the time of our visit and they were breathtaking. It is amazing to be able to walk underneath Azaleas. The walk along the riverbanks of the Ashley River was also beautiful. There are many types of wildlife in the ponds and surrounding areas including alligators, egrets, blue heron and more.

Magnolia is one of the oldest gardens in the United States and is the oldest public garden. Magnolia Plantation was formed in 1676 by Thomas and Ann Drayton. It was originally a rice plantation. The gardens were started in the 17th century and the first azaleas were introduced to this country there. Magnolia was opened to the public in 1870 and continues to thrive today. Please click the link below to view some of the pictures of the Gardens.
