The Quote of the Decade:“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006
I smiled when I saw the name of the person that said this...and then reality set in and I stopped smiling!!
Paddy - hmm, I can't believe he said that. As it would mean that he was capable of understanding it. Wow, I am relieved that he has that capacity, and surprised as why then it is not used to act on the understanding.
Oops, I forgot, he actually acted. Just seems to get confused with the direction
* sigh * If only a politician's words meant anything. And if only the people were smart enough to hold politicians accountable for their words 'then' and 'now'.

I, too, figured the quote would be by someone running for president right now. I wish. Pretty sobering, isn't it.
This is very sobering. It clearly seems to indicate that he knows exactly what he is doing and spelling out his purpose in doing it. Our debt wall time frame is fast approaching. Thanks for sharing this and helping us remember what was said and when.
Disgusting sad pathetic and even more appalling there are masses that will vote for him????
We simply cannot take another 4yrs unless financial armeggeddon and government control is your goal
This guy has set a new low for worthless politicians. It is hard to believe that anybody would support this man.
