In my former life I was an accountant. An auditor to be precise. I worked as an auditor of cities, townships, school districts and counties, and then moved on to audit corporations. Fun and exciting work (I know I know doesn't sound fun to most) for me that I really enjoyed. It also allowed an outlet for my questioning and meticulous nature. Attention to detail is something that was stressed to us in the military. Not paying attention! That's how soldiers die! This attitude served me quite well as an accountant.
Real estate! How on earth do i make the decision to leave accounting and go into real estate? Well it started when i kept hearing about 'the market' on the news. The universal housing slump as they called it. The problems with mortgage rates, the problems with homes simply not selling, or buyers not buying. As an accountant, having audited financial industry clients and helped out on audits of companies related to the mortgage industry I knew that these statements didn't quite make sense. They were to broad in their scope. You can't just say that the entire country has lost it's appetite. That every single person in the US has stopped buying, or selling. SOMEONE IS ALWAYS BUYING, and SOMEONE IS ALWAYS SELLING! IT is the way of business, it is the way of markets and it is the way of the economic forces that run our world. If a home isn't selling then it isn't priced right PERIOD. What is a home worth? What someone is willing to pay for it. I learn so much from clients.
Ray: So Ms. Home-seller why do you think your home didn't sell?
Ms. Home-seller: It's the market
Ray: oh really?
Ms. Home-seller: oh yeah my home is worth $300,000
And there it is. Ms home-seller is misinformed. It was the news, and in speaking to friends and family that i discovered that my skills as an accountant and my MBA would help me to educate folks. I would be in a unique position to help people and provide a service! Each of my clients is well educated on the laws of business and real estate economics. After working with me they are able to dispassionately assess whether or not they actually want to sell, or buy. In life just like business one must first analyze the end result desired before they can truly be sure about what to do. It's the same with someone wanting to buy or sell a home.
In a nutshell I became a Realtor to educate. To combine my love for business, accounting, economics and my questioning and inquisitive nature into a career that would provide me pleasure and challenges! I truly believe in the get by giving philosophy which is why i help folks and which is why the real estate company I joined was Keller Williams!
Thanks for reading and stay tuned there will certainly be more where this came from.
