Book Review - UnMarketing Stop Marketing. Start Engaging by Scott Stratten - I heard this book mentioned on a recent Activerain seminar and had to go right out and find it. Scott was one of the four guests for the biggest Activerain webinar event to date. Listening to him, there was an immediate connection and I think everyone else on the webinar also felt it.
What I love about this book is you can actually picture Scott standing there giving you this information, and as he mentions in one fo the chapters, he is actually narrating the book into a software that converts his voice into word form. I need that piece of technology as well.
This is a must read for anyone that is trying to get a message out there, and who isn't. I agree wholeheartedly with Scott on his opinions of makreting companies and various forms of media. Realtors seem especially prone to buying into the next great thing that will put them over the top, the next great website, or advertising campaign, or script blah blah blah...
Although this book is very heavy on the Twitter "love", read the book and you will definitely understand why. Scott was able to find and connect with several thousand people and grow his business very quickly, in fact way to quickly as he tells it, because he was not prepared for the response and lost several thousand followers because of his mistakes. You can find Scotts blog right here.
I am giving UnMarketing a $$$$$ based on the Twitter advice alone, something I really need to get more engaged in, having had an account for almost three years and not having a clue what to do with it. Learn from Scotts mistakes and his wisdom, there is so much more great information on marketing and UnMarketing.
I rate books with a $-$$$$$ rating based on how valuable the book is to my business and how valuable I feel it is to the audience.
- $$$$$ means that the book is a must have for any library and a good book to refer to anytime you need sound advice
- $$$$- means that the book is very good and worth reading
- $$$- means there may be a few nuggets of information, and if you can’t find something else to do go ahead and read this book
- $$- do not waste your time
