Feet, Who Knew?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Platinum

Did you know that 88 percent of American women wear shoes that are too small for them?  Your feet expand due to weight gain, pregnancy and even age.  Tendons and ligaments lose some of their elasticity as you get older, so you may grow a half size every 10 years after age 40!   Avoid pinched toes by having your feet measured each time you buy new footwear.  I always thought your feet shrunk as you got older.  I can't remember the last time that I got my foot measured, so I will have to do this next time!

Kristin - while I didn't know it was an overall fact, I know I've gone from a size 6 to a 6 1/2 in the last 5 years. There's nothing worse than wearing shoes that are too small! At least now I know it's normal. Also, my left foot is slightly larger than my right foot! Finding the perfect shoes is not easy!

Actually, I've gone down a half size in shoes in the last 8-10 years: but I stopped wearing spike heels years ago when my back started protesting. The older I get the more about comfort I become :)

Did you know that wearing those pointy toe shoes is what contributes to hammer toes later on?

Kristin, that is very interesting as I thought the same thing as you, that you feet shrunk as you got older.  Good to know, thanks for sharing!  --Krystal

Kristin-It is indeed true that your feet do grow as you get older. I jumped two sizes since my 20's. I can imagine wearing heels or shoes that are too small. I have enough problem with my feet. Such good advice and thank you for always sharing these great tips.

Whoa, I had no idea about this. I know someone whose feet have shrunk a full size and she isn't even 21 yet! I too always thought that feet shrank with age! What a cool topic.
