Don't Go There
What crawled up Christina Aguilera's rear end and died? If you are a fan of The Voice and watched last night's final performances, you may be wondering the same thing. What is the bone she has to pick with Tony Lucca and Adam Levine? For someone who is in the spotlight of American television, she sure is a nasty lady.
Last night Tony (who used to be in the Mickey Mouse Club with her) sang "99 Problems," never uttering the B word that is in the lyrics, but choosing to leave that word silent. Christina went after him for singing a vulgar song offensive to women. How can it be offensive when he didn't use the word? She was hateful for the sake of being hateful, and sadly this response was predictable. Adam Levine handled it like a champ, knowing full well it was coming from the hateful Christina Aguilera. He fought hatred with as much kindness as he could muster, ripping off his shirt to reveal a t-shirt supporting Christina's team and saying, "I love you, Christina."
In our line of work, we deal with nasty too often. It comes at you from cooperating agents, clients and prospects. How do you handle it? It's way too easy to get sucked into the vortex of drama. You can feel your blood pumping as you are being verbally attacked. Your instinct is to hurl a nasty biting comment back.
Take a deep breath and don't go there.
Sinking to a nasty person's level isn't doing anything to solve the problem or give you positive reputation points. My Mom, raised a farm girl, had lots of great sayings and one I heard time and again was, "You catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar." It's true. Watch The Voice tonight and hear how many more fans Adam has over Christina.
