Donate Your Used Cellphone and Provide for our Military Too!
Cell Phones for Soldiers Inc (CPFS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing deployed and returning troops cost-free methods to communicate with family while serving in the United States military. Based in Norwell, Mass., CPFS was founded in 2004 by Robbie and Brittany Bergquist, then 12 and 13 years old. From the recycling of used mobile phones and cash donations, the organization has raised more than $7 million, collected more than 8.3 million cell phones and provided troops overseas with more than 114 million minutes of free talk time. On Facebook, they can be found at https://www.facebook.com/JoinCellPhonesForSoldiers
In 2011, 593,535 service men and women have been served thanks to the generosity of so many good people.
Ted Mayr Funeral Home, in Ventura,CA, is collecting used cellphones to help families stay in touch with members in the armed forces.
The funeral home is partnering with Cell Phones for Soldiers to collect the phones.
Businesses and residents throughout Ventura County are asked to donate unwanted, gently-used cellphones. Cell Phones for Soldiers will recycle the phones, and use the proceeds to provide prepaid calling cards and cellphones to troops serving in the military.
Since establishing a collection site, Ted Mayr has provided 40,800 free minutes of talk time for troops and their families.
Phones can be dropped off daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road in Ventura. For more information, call 643-9977.
This is a great idea and will help a lot of people. Many of the youth today have to upgrade their phones everytime a new model comes out...
So true about the youth upgrading their phones and RE agents upgrade all the time too.
This is a great program, Sandy! Thanks for sharing the information. I am about ready to upgrade my phone, so I'll see if there is a place nearby to donate my old phone for the military.
What a fantastic program. Such a worthy cause, and most definitely a "Win-Win" for everyone involved! Thanks for the information, Sandy.
Hi Rose, thanks so much for doing that. Check the website for a location near you!
