Amy Hahn tells the story here of Janette Murphy, her cousin, my niece. Janette was a cancer survivor for six years before she finally lost that battle. We all miss her so much and will remember her next week at our local Relay for Life.
2012 Relay For Life of Carteret County, NC
When I was a kid, I thought Janette hung the moon (still do), and all of my cousins thought the same thing. She was the oldest grandchild to my sweet grandmother, Mary Jean Ralph, who lost her life to cancer in February of 1977. In January of 2012, at the age of 46, Janette lost her battle with brain cancer. At her memorial service, there was standing room only and all in attendance knew that the world would never be the same. Janette was by far, one of the most special and well respected people I will ever have the chance to know. Over the years, we didn't get to visit near as often as we should have, but I can't remember ever seeing Janette without a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes. She was not just my cousin.... She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and friend. She loved with all her heart, and those she loved always felt that love. Words can never explain just how much Janette meant to those around her, but the article below, posted in the Arab Tribune, tells a lot about the kind of person Janette was, and what an impact she had on the lives of those around her.

On May 18th, Relay for Life of Carteret County will be hosting their annual event to raise funds and awareness. The opening ceremony begins at 6:00 pm, at West Carteret High School. Each person who attends has a different story. They are cancer survivors, friends & family of cancer survivors, maybe they have lost a loved one to cancer, or maybe they just want to support the cause and help with the fight against cancer! Whatever your reason, I hope to see you there! My family will be there, and as we walk around the track we will cheer for Janette and remember her life, her strength and her love.
