It looks like the golf course nightmare over at Vista Royale, Vista Gardens, and Grand Royale may be coming to an end.  According to news reports, golf is returning to Vista Meadows in Vero Beach Florida under the leadership of a recent transplant to Florida who has been a course superintendent in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Carson City, Nev.

“I also wanted to own and operate a golf course,” said Robert Carter.

The 28-year-old Carter, who moved to the area about four months ago, will operate the course under the name Lynx at Vista Golf Course.

His father, Greg Carter, is a prominent PGA Golf Professional and will serve as director of golf at the course at least temporarily and perhaps permanently. Carter’s late grandfather was also a PGA Golf Professional.

Carter plans on opening nine holes of the 27-hole course on Feb. 1, followed soon thereafter by the restaurant and lounge. Temporary greens will be used while work is done on the other holes. Around April 1, he hopes to have the other 18 holes open with permanent greens while work is done on the first nine holes. He will continue to rotate in and out nine holes of the course during the year in order to get them in ideal condition.

In 2009, Carter will have all 27 holes open for play. In the past, a golfer could play different combinations of the three nine-hole courses when deciding to play 18 holes. Under Carter, however, there will be one nine-hole course and one 18-hole course.

The course has been closed since last spring and condominium residents have complained the current owner, Vista Golf LLC, has not properly maintained the area. Carter said he and his partners, whom he declined to name, have a three-year lease with an option to buy the facility. He did not want to disclose the terms of the agreement.
