Blogging Does Get You Noticed, Just Pick A Good Topic Like Schools!
Schools in Clayton, NC
I wrote a quick blog post the other day about the schools in Clayton,NC. I mentioned that here in Johnston County there are some of the best schools in the state. I also made mention of the neighbouring ( Irish Spelling) county, Wake which is trying a new school assignment program. The program is getting a lot of discussion and some of it is quiet passionate.
The way it works is, parents of school children in the Wake County Public School System recently had an opportunity to choose the school they wished their child would attend.
It was done on a first come first served basis so those parents who are up on what was going on were first in line, if the school you picked was full, your child would then be assigned to your second choice, then your third etc, etc, until your child was placed in a school.

The problems arise when a new family moves into a neighbourhood and they won't know what school their child will attend, some realtors are afraid that will deter people from buying homes in Wake County.

I got a call from my brother in law Jim yesterday who was in North Carolina on business and picked up the local newspaper the News and Observer to find my blog post was featured in the paper in a section about the school system in Wake County. The writer pointed out that I was using the situation in Wake County to market homes in Johnston County. That was not the intent of the blog post but merely to promote Johnston County Schools.

The writer T. Keung Hui also has a blog, WakeEd and it has received about 25 comments to date and some are quite, "shall we say direct!!!" Apparently I need to take some grammar lessons......!

T. Keung called me later in the day and explained that those comments were nothing, that the opposing side in the debate can go all out sometimes. We had a very nice conversation and I learned a lot from him.

So a quick blog about a serious topic gets in the newspaper and sparks a debate, I wonder will I sell more homes in Johnston County because of it?

Hi David, looking on the bright side I say congrats on all the exposure you got in your community. I think most of us AR bloggers would love to have our posts picked up by the media. Thanks for the tip about schools.

David:

A quick blog about something controversial can land you in the newspaper.  However, it is good to hear that your blog is widely read and republished in your local paper.

David ~ I agree, including well-rounded information regarding schools is very important. So many clients choose their location based on school districts. Congratulations on landing the newspaper recognition!

David, School are no doubt a flashpoint topic.  We did some posts on a local school tax levy fight and we're still getting contacts from those blog posts six months later.  And the press loves them too because you've already done the writing for them.

Real estate with passion and professionalism!

David, since I am paying attention to the school system here in Pinellas County in FL (which is about 8 years), it has changed about 4 times. It is hard to know what's going on, but since I have 2 kids in school, I'm pretty much on top of it. I have a clear advantage over another agent who has no clue and would have to do the old "you can read up on that on the County School webiste". Schools are a hot button for all parents, that's a pretty big Buyer group your topic affects, good job!

Anna, thanks, I think I need to do this more often

Christine, it really is cool to get a call or an email from somewhere you wouldn't expect.

Erica, exactly, find me people

Kevin, no problem, schools have to be one of the most important factors in a home purchase, and in some cases the only factor.

Mike, I think this one has legs I'm going to focus on this!

Debbie, it is so important to a lot of the home buying public, even the ones without children.

Joy,well I hope so, the secret is to get the reader to be a buyer

Tammie, thanks, I wouldn't call myself an expert but I'm working on it, and I have two boys in the Johnston County School System

Evelyn, I had just posted it and was going to go back and add pictures I couldn't find on my computer he must have a Google search for some keywords.

Jeffery, Thanks

Liz and Bill, ouch! My sister is a newspaper journalist, she would not be pleased. Schools are big news everywhere

Harry, thanks, local works

Sandy, well it was probably a Google search that found it, but a lot more people  have read it now!

Tanja, absolutely., huge group of buyers
