Just Ducky - A Report from the Travel Correspondent

The pond at the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park, home of the Shakespeare Festival theaters, is the gathering place for ducks, geese, cranes and egrets. I approached the pond shortly after one of the greenskeepers had put out feed for them. I wouldn't say the ducks were tame but they weren't timid. These three were kind enough to pose for their group portrait.

That was nice of them to pose for you.  I have been feeding Sand Hill Cranes since Sept and we have only been able to purchase 10 lbs of corn at a time, but yesterday, I found it in 50 lbs bags for the same price as 10 so I grabbed it.

Normally we have 6 visitors daily so today when I finally have a great priced breakfast ready for them, only 1 showed up so far.

Go figure.

Hi Kevin, the birds are just gorgeous and I'm sure your Sand Hill Cranes must think you are some kind of god dispensing the bounty of the earth, lol.  I'll bet you enjoy doing that and find great satisfaction in the process.

I hope these were not the "mystery" ducks you were talking about.  After all the mallard decoys you've seen me make, surely you know a mallard when you see one.  Anyway, they are quite good looking.

Leslie, I was pretty sure they were Mallards, lol.  They aren't the mystery ducks.  Mom isn't giving me enough time on HER computer to download the other photos!  I can't wait to see you and show you the other ducks...maybe they will be inspiration to get you back to burning and painting.

Hi Mona - those ducks certainly don't seem to be at all flustered by the attention...now if the 'office mgr' was there, maybe a different story?!

Our local mallards (or at least I call them that!) seem to have a much more definite pattern on their chest - regional variation..or perhaps just ruffled feathers! :-)

Karen, the Office Mgr would have had a field day with those ducks, swans, geese and other assorted birds.  Did you take the photo of the Mallards on the shore?
