I recently got a really nice comment on one of my posts. The one about me being an Evil Republican. The Commentator made the remark that she never tells anyone her political affiliations, because it might hurt her business.
Well First I must say that I respect her decision and completely defend her right to do just that.
I however; have never been one to take the Safe Route. In Fact, I am the one who often stirs up the good political debate; like I am doing now. I often do this when I am around a group. Sometimes these people are my friends and sometimes they are my clients.. Sometimes they are both.
In addition, I have some pretty big clients. Clients that have pictures with them with the Clintons on their wall. Not the typical fund raiser "I wrote a cheque" picture. But the "how's that new seven iron hitting for you" picture. I in turn have a picture of GWB on my office wall. I like it there, because I respect our form of government and I support it. I also like our current president and because of things I have done in my life, feel that we are currently on the right path.
As for losing business, I proudly went to Listing Presentations with a Bumper sticker and never had a negative comment. I close most of the listing appointments that I go on and regardless of the bumper sticker, I had a great year.
I guess what I am trying to say is I am proud of what I believe in. And in no way do I think that the young lady who made the well written comment is not proud of her convictions, it is just that I am starting to get to a different point in my life.
I am at the point that if you don't want my help because I believe in a different political party, then I probably can't help you sell your house anyway. If you don't like me for what I believe....then that frees me up to do something worthwhile.
I guess I am reaching that point when I don't care as much about what some others think. Heck, I may just skip a decade and give up on fashion sense. I mean who needs white socks anyway.
This is just my opinion and "opinions are like onions in that they share the same letters and they are multi layered" let's see you guys add some layers to this. Has your belief in Anything ever cost you business
