January 1 brings new Radon Law

By
Real Estate Agent with Platinum Partners Realtors

The arrival of the New Year also brought the arrival of a new Illinois Law. The Illinois Radon Awareness Act requires the seller of residential property (1-4 units) to provide the buyer with 2 additional documents. The first is a "Disclosure of information on Radon Hazards" form, and the second is a pamphlet on Radon testing guidelines from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. The new law does not require a seller to test, or engage in Radon mitigation activity. The purpose of this legislation is to increase Radon awareness.

I didn't know about the radon law.  I know we don't have that problem in Southeast Louisiana.

It is good to see that Illinois is putting in this new law because radon gas is something many people do not know about and just how dangerous it is. Hopefully this will increase awareness against this fatal gas.

John, it's not everywhere in Illinois either.

Brian, Your right. Every year the paper pile gets bigger.

Nicholas, Awareness is good.

Maureen, Thanks, good to be here.
