Painted Turtle Pond In Occoquan Bay Wildlife Refuge

Occoquan Bay Wildlife Refuge Collage

Wetlands cover 50% of the refuge on this former US Army electromagnetic experimental site. Since very little land was used the 230 species of birds, aquatic animals, reptiles, deer, butterflies and small mammals thrived.

There are four. miles of hiking trails on\n the old patrol roads with lovely views of Occoquan Bay and the Potomac River.

The refuge is open year round with seasonal hour differences. For more details call

What a lovely idyllic setting.  But if I had been there I would have had to see if the fish were biting.

Ralph  It is heavily patrolled by rangers and game wardens - photography is all that is allowed.  The punishment is beyond anything you would enjoy

Honesty, Integrity, Results, Experienced. HIRE Me!

Good morning Karen -

With such a Lovely Pond and Pier, But I'm Not Fishing.  I wouldn't feel the need to fish either my friend.  I can easily see myself happily planted here just relaxing, enjoying the calm water, watching the fish swim by and saying life is good.

Have a great day in all you do my friend.

John

Rebecca  It is primarily a turtle pond - I have never seen fish in it, but they are in other sections of the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge

Hello Karen,

What a lovely setting...and so safe for the fish with the no hook rule!  But darn that Toni, she beat me to the punch about fishing for clients (LOL)

That looks like a delighful spot.  You are probably wise, however, to keep your pole sheathed.
