I was speaking with one of my new agents the other day about the best way to set up her website. I’ve asked agents in the past why they have a website and most of them say to appease sellers and to try to get leads. I usually follow that up with “well, are you getting any leads?” and usually the answer is no. More often than not they are spending 1,000’s a year on a web site that isn’t doing much for them.
I’ve gone to several seminars on how to “Improve Your SEO” and “Get the Most out of your Website” type seminars as well as downloaded books and other information that's out there. I’m certainly no expert but I share as much as I can with my agents to help them get the most out of their sites. One of the things I talk about is focusing on local markets vs. national markets. For example: focusing your site on Pembrook townhouses vs. Virginia townhouses because you’re targeting a smaller group but ranking higher in search engines. You have less competition battling other agents in your market vs. big sites like Trulia or Zillow.
All that being said, I came across this blog which I thought did a good job of explaining differences between local and national SEO which I thought might be helpful. Hope you get something out of it. http://www.seosudo.com/blog/Local-SEO-vs-National-SEO-How-is-Local-SEO-Different.html
