Black Cloud Or Not Black Cloud, That Is The Question?

Trouble Cloud Over HeadWith some possible difficult times I heard from another recently and me commenting on the black cloud over head it was posed to me, we shall see.

Black Cloud Or Not Black Cloud, That Is The Question?

I was sorry I quickly judged cause I should know. We really in life don't know sometimes just seeing things as they are at the moment and not into the future. So for everyone else I remind myself and you all if you have never heard this story before of The Chinese Farmer.

There is a Chinese story of a farmer who used an old horse to till his fields. One day, the horse escaped into the hills and when the farmer's neighbors sympathized with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer replied, "Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?" A week later, the horse returned with a herd of horses from the hills and this time the neighbors congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, "Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?"

Then, when the farmer's son was attempting to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg. Everyone thought this very bad luck. Not the farmer, whose only reaction was, "Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?"

Some weeks later, the army marched into the village and conscripted every able-bodied youth they found there. When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg, they let him off. Now was that good luck or bad luck? Who knows?

Everything that seems on the surface to be an evil may be a good in disguise. And everything that seems good on the surface may really be an evil. So we are wise when we leave it to God to decide what is good fortune and what misfortune, and thank Him that all things turn out for good with those who love Him.

Love this!  We really dont know if something is GOOD or bad other then what we decide to call it and thats why we can choose to be thankfully in all circumstance because God does work it out for out good.

You are right who knows. Plenty of life's setbacks have turned out to have positive results. All we can do is keeping learning and moving forward.

2). We are always wiser when we leave things to God. He is the master of the universe and he is ALL knowing.

if we give thanks for what we have, what we don't have doesn't look so significant.

Gary - I love this story and remember hearing it some time ago. So many times when things didn't go my way I knew God had other plans for me and each time something better happend. It may not have been what I wanted, but it was what I needed and that's always best! This is a good read for the end of the day!

This story reminds me that only hindsight is 20/20 and that we don't always get what we want but we get what we need.

Gary - Great stories!   I love to read these stories that give us good perspectives on our days.  My husband always says, "Darkest just before dawn" when things are really bad - and he is always right!   Next day is always wonderful!

Gary - I found this old English Story (1902). Here is the link: http://gaslight.mtroyal.ca/mnkyspaw.htm

But I can't say I have enjoyed it, it is very dark

Very true.  And sometimes it is just what you make of the circumstances...you can make your own good luck...or bad luck.

Gary, I think we've all looked back at life and thought "I'm so glad I didn't get what I wished for!" - We just didn't know it then! The perceived bad luck was actually good luck. - In my case, the secret crush from High School - boy am I glad I didn't ever have good luck with him!

Gary....excellent post!!!!  The Chinese farmer story illustrated your point perfectly.   Even when things aren't going our way, I guess it is best to try to stay positive, sit back and wait to see how things work out.

I sure hope that I am blessed with some of that farmer's luck.  We shall see...
