The city of Bowie is one of the communities I endear. It is located in Prince George’s County in Maryland and occupies a total land area of 18 square miles.

One of the factors that make the community lovable is its rich history. Dating back in 1853 when it was just a part of a tract of land, it has grown to be a diverse community filled with ancient and modern edifices serving both residential and commercial purposes.

Bowie is proud of its ensemble of museums that proclaim its history to visitors. Transients and guests of the city would surely love laying foot on the Belair Mansion and Stable Museum as well as in the Bowie Railroad Museum. The Bowie Welcome Center is worthy of introductory pieces of information to embrace a feel of the entire city.

At present, Bowie is considered as one of the fastest-growing cities of Maryland. From its humble beginnings as a small agricultural and railroad town, it now exudes the promise of being a city to beat in terms of modernization and development.

Offering comfort and convenience to current Bowie residents are various recreation spots such as 72 ball fields, ice arena, golf course, town center, and playhouse. There are also various businesses in the city, some of which like Walmart and Giant are among the city’s largest employers.

Quality education is well-provided by the Prince George’s County Public Schools system. Area residents are conveniently zoned to 9 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and a high school. There are two special education centers as well as a tech/voc school. Also included in the ensemble of educational institutions are about 12 private schools. The Bowie State University provides higher education to residents since 1865.

True to the city motto of “Growth, unity, and progress”, the developments which are now taking place in the city of Bowie are evidences of the continuous efforts of the city to make it a desirable community to live in. These developments along with the reputation of the city of having low crime rate add to the reasons why I love the community known as Old Town Bowie!
