MUST-HAVE NIFTY PROGRAM: SNAGIT

Snagit makes the top ten tech tools for me, too. I like the examples used below. It is invaluable fior creating a Keynote app Powerpoint slideshow each year. Plus it is a great tool to attach something to an email that you need the recipient to view. The surprise is that it can record the entire website!

Snagit box

Since I downloaded Snagit a month ago, I have used it almost every day.  I didn't realize how much I needed exactly this piece of software until I found it.

What does it do? Snagit clips web pages and converts the image to a jpeg. I came across it when I was trying to put together a listing presentation on my iPad. I wanted to illustrate current market conditions using graphs from the T.A.R.R. Report website. The Triangle Area Residential Real Estate Report is a subscription-only resource for the real estate industry in the Raleigh-Durham North Carolina area which analyses data from our MLS, public tax records, and Centralized Showing Service.  Subscribers can use their graphs, as long as they give credit to the T.A.R.R. Report as the source.

Snagit turned out to be the perfect tool for my purpose. By manipulating the transparent cross-hairs, I can isolate any portion of a web page, text or image, and save it as a jpeg. Then I can WRITE ON THE IMAGE!  I can highlight, draw arrows, add text, and more.  When I save the Snagit file, my notes are saved as part of the image. I can then insert that jpeg into a blog, print publication, or Keynote slide, and resize it as I please. Quick, easy, efficient.

The box above was clipped from the Snagit home page. I inverted the color to white on black -- added a border and shadow -- threw in a couple of stars -- and underlined "video"to remind myself Snagit does mp4 too.

Now that I have Snagit, I find I use it for personal communication as well as business.  I can add Snagit clips to iPhoto and Evernote, or attach them to emails.  It's perfect for creating Facebook posts and Pinterest pins.

Snagit is well worth the $50 cost.  My impressive new Ipad listing presentation got me the listing, first time out of the box. That's priceless!

Cheryl,  Clipping programs like SnagIt are really handy and I get a lot of use out of them.  Working with our IDX provider last night looking for some missing fields and it was easy to clip the MLS section and send the tech person rather than typing it all from scratch.

This is a very good tool for sure and there are problem things that Snagit will do that I don't know yet.

BTW does anyone know a way to sync two or more computers with outlook economically.

I've been using Jing (jingproject.com) for years. I had Jing Pro until it was discontinued and was replaced by Snagit. Jing is still free and captures images and allows you to add arrows and comments. It also allows you to record short videos. I have Snagit but must admit I haven't used it as much as Jing. Snagit is more advanced and does a lot more but I haven't taken the time to learn all that it does.
