It was a lovely spring morning in our nation’s Capitol. The weather was perfect and the backdrop at the base of the Washington Monument couldn’t have been any better. We’ve been promoting the Realtor® Rally for some time now and I wasn’t sure what to expect. How many people did they expect? What were they going to talk about for 2 hours? What is this rally about anyway?
I believe they were expecting around 10,000 people from all over the country. Last count they passed along was over 13,500. NVAR and other Virginia, Maryland and DC associations had busses set up to transport people into DC. It was quite seamless. The rally did start a little late but once they got rolling it was inspiring indeed. Local and national representatives along with NAR leadership did a great job of conveying how much real estate means to the economic recovery of the nation. This means we Realtors® also play a vital role in the recovery from the recession.
One of the stats Dr. Yun mentioned was for every house we sell there is a $50,000- $60,000 boost to the local economy. This comes from new home owners purchasing paint, furniture, hiring moving companies, etc. For every 2 homes sold, it creates 1 new job! Wow! Now that’s something worth being proud of!

I feel lucky that I live close enough to DC that I was able to attend today’s event. I hope this won’t be the last time we’re able to get together as a group to rally for important issues that affect our industry.
