IT'S PROM TIME IN THE WOODLANDS ~ BE SAFE!

Prom

It is that time of year when the young men and women of our local high schools gear up for their Prom!  The Woodlands High School prom is tomorrow night at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.  This is one of those memorable occasions in a young person's life.  However, we all know that with the prom, there can be danger.  Please pass this along to all of the young people who will be going to prom.  These tips may save a life!

  • Please designate a driver!  Make sure that your teen arrives to and from the prom safely!  Hire a driver, have a trusted friend, brother, sister or whoever to drive!  Even if there is no one drinking, teens tend to be careless and distracted with all of the hoopla!
  • Parents - check in with your teen!  Make sure they are where they say they will be.  Too bad if they feel that this is being nerdy!
  • Offer your home for them to come to after the Prom.  This way, they will be supervised and off of the streets!
  • Know who your teen will be going with and have their contact information.  My son is going with a group.  I have asked for the list of names and phone numbers as well as parent's information in case we need to reach someone!  We are taking pictures at our house before the Prom so this gives us a great way to meet the other teens as well as their parents.
  • TALK to your teen about drinking, drugs and sex!  YES, talk to them even when you think they aren't listening.  They are!  Remind them that ONE bad decision can change their entire lives!

Each year we hear of tragic events surround the prom.  Let's change that this year with safety, sound thinking and some planning!

BE SAFE OUR PRECIOUS TEENAGERS!

Hi Paula, prom night is one of the events our teenagers look forward to and I'm glad you posted those reminders.  I think you mentioned all the good points on those 5 bullets.

Thank you.

Thanks you all.  My son will be attending the prom this Saturday.  You know as Mom's we will always worry.  I just always grieve when I hear the bad things that happen on Prom night from a few bad decisions.  Lots of prayers going up for all of them.  Will be glad when it is over so I can take a breath again.

Oh yippee, can't wait until my daughter is of age for this! (mostly sarcastic about that).

Hey Adam, not sure how old your daughter is but believe me, in no time at all you will be astounded that she is all grown up.  It happens so quickly and everyone tells you this but until it happens, you just can't believe it.  Now that I am a grandmother, time really seems to be flying by.

Yep it's that time of year...Prom Time. Our local police department re-enacted a fatal scene, for the high schoolers, that involved a drunk driver. It was pretty graphic.

Debbie, our students did this as well.  It is very realistic and does make these kids realize that tragic things happen when they do goofy things.  So praying for all of the tonight.  They are due here for pictures any minute!  Can't wait.
