Why Stage It Now?: Tales of a Family Room Redo

By
Home Stager with Design To Market LLC

It is an exciting time of year in the real estate world.  2007 is behind us with some good news, some challenging news, and optimism for an improving 2008.  Regardless of the competitiveness of the market, one truism never changes:  It is essential to put your best foot forward when selling your home.  This truism translates into an easy solution.  Call a stager...NOW!

The picture below is an example of a room before the Cincinnati Home Staging  company Design To Market completed an accessories only staging project.  As a prospective buyer (or seller) take a quick look at this photo and decide how tempted you would be to schedule a showing.  This is a beautifully maintained home in a very appealing neighborhood but does this grab you?

Jo ~ Very nice!  I hate furniture up against the walls (as in the before), and I like the way you repositioned it!

This was a great project in that the client had nice furnishings but needed a designers eye to pull it together.  We also had a florescent kitchen light removed and replaced with a pendant light.  Open kitchens REALLY need to stay away from florescent!

Holy Jamoly, Jo. It looks 1000% better. You have just the right accessories to make the room more inviting. I like the way the orange/red leads your eye around the room.

Cream walls and a neutral palate give so much flexibilty in introducing an appealing color scheme.  We felt the warmth of "fall" colors would add interest to the room.

Thanks Fernando...the secret is we had to slip and slide as we trudged over ice and snow to get the materials inside...I bet this is not an issue in your area!

What a great job and what a big difference.  The arrangement is now far more pleasing to the eye, the palette is  more neutral and will appeal to more potential buyers, and the room looks bigger.  Thank you for sharing.

Tracy,  I think the other benefit is that a change in furniture place made a big difference in the flow from the kitchen to the Family room.

The other thing about moving furniture away from walls is that is actually makes a space look bigger!  Great job Jo!

We have also found that many people have small non-essential furniture pieces (Small tables, and ottomans for example) that can be removed to add to the openness of the room.

Nice job.

The after photo's are great. the picture over the fireplace draws the eye up making the room look bigger... nice job. Removing the rug and editing the room brought balance and ease to the space. Well done!

Thanks Brenda, We actually talked about leaving the rug but the carpet is new and in wonderful condition.  Usually, unless a space is really in need of color or warmth, we reserve rugs for hard wood or tile.  I appreciate your feedback.
