The boaters know to pay attention to the no wake signs as the come in and out of Belmont Bay in Woodbridge VA. I wonder if the Osrpey know to slow their speed as well? For anyone who likes to watch Osprey fish and listen to their calls the Belmont Bay area and the Occoquan Bay Wildlife Refuge will give you lots of opportunities.
Jon-I've tried too. Suspect you have to be able to sit for hours and wait.
Harry-I would have a very hard time become landlocked after living so close to the river.
Than-the police boat is parked close by. He had better watch out for a ticket for speeding.
Anna-I'm spoiled and love to be able to take strolls along the waterfront.

Brenda it is. It's been a busy weekend and I didn't get a lot of chances to enjoy the river.
The Osrpey seems to be quite content watching the boats go by. We just spent the evening on our back deck listening to the light rain and the robins calling each other before dark. What a peaceful and great way to end the day.

I live in the mountains (ok, foot hills) and water in any shape or form is rare. Most times i don't miss it but reading about lakes and rivers makes me wish we would have more close by. I guess I can't have it all?!
Cindy, we have more in common than you might think...altho we don't have the Virginia humidity in the summers, we are called "Fishhawk" Lake, which is another term for the lovely Osprey that you speak of! Thoreau, in his book Walden, actually drew a picture of a "fishhawk", as he wrote below his drawing of it...I have an annotated hardback version of this book that I dearly love and what a discovery it was as I read it while sitting in my home at Fishhawk Lake!!! (When I get my good camera, SOON, I will hope to finally take some close-ups of ospreys, bald eagle, otters and other fowl and creatures that abound here).
Susanna-I know what you mean. I love the beach but I love being in the mountains hiking. My perfect world I could live close to each and enjoy them both everyday.
Gayle-sounds like a wonderful place to live. I would have thought of Fishhawk as a term for an Eagle or perhaps a number of the other perhaps a number of the variety of hawks that fish. Learned something new today. Thank you.
