What is wisdom?
Knowledge is the “know-how” to do things, but wisdom is applying that knowledge in a beneficial way.
Proverbs chapter 1
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.
How do we get wisdom?
1. Making mistakes
2. Observing others’ mistakes
3. Learning lessons from wise people
I don’t have enough years in my life to make every mistake and learn from it; therefore I must learn from others’ mistakes. And most importantly, I need to surround myself with older, wiser people from whom I can learn.
<story of wise King Solomon:>
2 Chronicles chapter 1
7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8 And Solomon said unto God…. 10Give me now wisdom and knowledge…
11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour… 12Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour,
2 Chronicles 9:23
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.
Remember, everyone is an example. Either an example of what TO do or an example of what NOT to do. Surround yourself with people who are an example of what TO do right.
