Another Family Moving On

It was time for this mother and her little ones to move on. She had 7 babies in our backyard and yesterday was moving day.  She moved one at a time (3) then she went back for number 4 and the other three decided they did not want to be left behind.

She had a hard time with the remaining four but once she got them all to one place, she would pick one up, climb the fence, walk down 2 fence lines and onto the sidewalk to the drain on the side and down she would go with one at a time.  This took place from 1 in the afternoon till the last one around 2:30.

So long, do not come back.  BUT CALL ME NEXT TIME YOU WANT TO BUY A HOME.

Hi Will - My first Lab and I once raised a litter of eight baby raccoons - their mother left them under my porch and never made it back. They were awesome fun, and one of them decided to become a permanent resident - he wasn't going anywhere as long as I was going to feed him. In spite of all the horror stories you hear, he was never a problem, but I wouldn't recommend keeping one - we were just lucky to get a good one.

We fed a litter of baby raccoons a few years ago.  We would put food on our covered front porch.  Then, I noticed one of the babies had a lame front arm and couldn't get to the food.  I must've cried for a half hour feeling so guilty.  Moved the food down the sidewalk and that little guy just munched and munched.

Will~ I'm sure you were happy to see moving day come and go.  We have not seen many raccoons at our house.  Mostly deer and rabbits.

Will,  I could have sent Rocky over there.  He would have happily helped that mama round up her babies.

That's so neat, Will, that you got to see it happening and take pictures. What a great Mom.

How fun is that Will that you were able to watch the whole process.  We had a stray mama cat do that one year and she was ferocious about getting her babies out of harms way.  It was fun to watch - from a distance.

Good morning, Will.  Thanks for sharing your photographs.  I guess your yard did not offer accommodations for the expanded family.

Have an outstanding week, with your camera in hand.
