If you are a golf fanatic, this is the place to be during the months of January and February.  You can see three professional tours represented here in one state within these months.  There is the Mercedes Chamionship going on right now on Maui (PGA event), The Sony Open starts on Thursday on Oahu, (PGA event), The Turtle Bay Championship is scheduled for Jan 26-28 on Oahu (Champions Tour event), The SBS will be played at Turtle Bay on Oahu from Feb 16-17 (LPGA event) and the Fields Open will be played Feb 22-24 on Oahu at Ko'Olina (LPGA event).

I never forget how lucky I am to live in golfers paradise here in Hawaii.  There are at least 10 other courses that could be used to host professional events here on the islands but of course that is impossible to do.

Last year I volunteered at the Sony Open and the Turtle Bay Championship.  I had a great time while I was working in the courtesy booth at the Sony Open and doing player transportation at Turtle Bay.  I was fortunate enough to spend time with Tom Kite, Jim Thorpe, Hale Irwin, Loren Roberts (who won the event last year) and Scott Simpson just to name a few.  They are extremely nice gentlemen and it reminds me why my entire family is involved in the game of golf:  gentlemen play this sport.

I am looking forward to getting back out to these events as a spectator this year with my son.  If  he continues his great high school playing, I may be driving him one of these days!

Aloha From Hawaii,

I haven't seen the Sony Open (formerly known as the Hawaiian Open) for a couple of years.  I went about 15 straight years before that.  I think I will sneak out at least one day this year.  Good luck to your son and his golf game.

Randy-Talk to Doug.  He should be able to get you "inside the ropes" at the Sony.  Yo could volunteer there for a part of the day and spend the rest of the day watching the tourney.  Cameron shot a 73 yesterday at Coral Creek.  He took a lesson at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Champions Gate Florida during our recent trip there.  He has really turned it up now.
