Moving on Up : How to Prepare!

By
Home Builder with Lennar Corporation

Summers here and moving begins…whether it is from an old home to a new home, college to home, college to new home or otherwise, things can easily get to be disorganized, distracting and an overall mess! Read about four simple ways to make your move easier and cheaper!

Costly mistakes can make an exciting move a disappointment. A huge mistake many people make is calling a moving company without checking credentials first. A few men and a large truck do not make them trustworthy! You should always research your movers, look for reviews and remember that anyone can build a website. Also, get a cost estimate; receive something in writing from the mover. Do NOT rely on their website.

Not moving for a few months? Start planning now! Start to collect boxes from friends and local stores that recycle their boxes; this will save you the hassle of buying boxes last minute. You can also start to plan your meals around what you have in your cupboards to save you the trouble of moving all of the food in your kitchen!

Also, do not wait until last minute to throw your home in boxes. Packing always takes longer than you think it will! Start with the items you use least around your home (this is also a good time to go through and discard or donate any unwanted or unused items). The closer to your move date you are you can get the more important items packed away into boxes. If you organize your packing efforts by room you are likely to reduce your stress when unpacking and are less likely to loose items in the shuffle.

Let people know you’re moving. Between Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, other social media and good ol’ fashion snail mail, you should be able to get most everyone aware you are moving to a new address. Also submit a change of address form. Though mail is few and far between, you would hate to miss the monthly magazines or fall behind on any bills.
