Black and white hardwood floors

Shaw cosmopolitan maple - black hardwoodOne of the coolest hardwoods I've seen is Shaw's Cosmopolitan Maple.  It's sleek and stylish and fabulous all over.

It actually comes in black - pure black.  It's darker than ebony stained floors and actually looks like they are painted black.

Cosmopolitan Maple is also available in a pure white which also looks super stylish.  Unlike white washed oak (which is rather dated), this has a modern look and again looks like it is painted.

It's really cool.

Shaw cosmopolitan maple - white hardwoodThis hardwood is prefinished, so it's easy to install and has a tough outer layer so it will last a long time. Cosmopolitan Maple comes in a wide plank (5 inches) for a stylish and sophisticated look.

And, because it's prefinished hardwood and because black and white is so chic, you can create some fun designs with this dramatic hardwood.  For example, you can have black as the main color and then create a white border...or even 2 rows of borders.  Or, you can make the floor striped with every other board alternating black and white.

Shaw's Cosmopolitan Maple is fabulously chic!

AND... IN A FEW YEARS WHEN THIS FAD GOES OUT...IT WILL DATE ITSELF TO EXACTLY 2012-2014. REMEMBER WHITE KITCHEN CABINETS WITH OAK TRIM STRIPS? YUK YODAY...HOW ABOUT HARVEST GOLD AND AVACADO GREEN CARPET AND APPLIANCES? MAYBE THE "EARTH TONES" OF THE LATE 80s. BROWNS AND ORANGES....HALLOWEEN AND THANKSGIVING DECOR AT BEST...

IT LOOKS NICE TODAY AND IT'S FRESH AND NEW...I LIKE BLACK CARS TOO, AS LONG AS THEY BELONG TO SOMEONE ELSE. THEY ONLY LOOK GREAT WHEN THEY COME OUT OF THE DETAIL SHOP. DUST, DIRT, MUD, SWIRL MARKS IN THE SHINE.....BUT.....

BLACK AND WHITE FLOORS ....MAYBE IF YOU DON'T EVER GO INTO THE ROOM.

SORRY, BUT THAT'S JUST ME ...OR IS THAT WHAT A BUYER MIGHT BE SAYING IN 2018????

Joanna - They are on the expensive side.

Aimee - Good question.  Unfortunately, no.  These are special types of paint and coating.  We have not been able to mimick this on unfinished wood.  If we could, you better believe I'd be promoting it to so many of my customers.

Kathy - Excellent.  I'm glad to hear it.

Eileen - Yes, it is such a hip and stylish look.  I would also guess that it is more challenging to maintain.

Kathleen - Thanks so much.  Yes, I think dark shows it the most.

Jon - It's pretty durable - comes w/ 25 yr warranty.  It works w/ the same type of hardwood cleaning products that other hardwood floors use.

Bill - If I had more, I would show them, but the other pictures are just of samples.

Kathy - Good, I'm glad.

Dear Debbie,

Wow, those sure are a twist on the usual. That gives me all kinds of ideas for a really updated or artistic decor. Can you imagine using the black in an Asian inspired room or the white in something with a Florida theme?

Rock Realty - Yes, dark and light floors are very in style.  Most of my customers do one of the extremes.

Heather - Yes, you can have a lot of fun with them.

Kimo - Yu are welcome.

Tina - they probably use a similar technology for the cabinets.  White painted cabinets are very in style.

Travis - Excellent.  Glad to hear that.  Have fun w/ that project.

Gretchen - Oh excellent.  So glad to hear that and hopefully this will come in handy.

Pamela - Yes, in your area tile is big.  Here on the east coast, it's all about hardwood.

Donna - Yes, it could definitely work for that.  Oh and thx ahead of time for the reblog.

Larry - First, this is not for everybody and for sure it is taste specific.  This wood is not cheap and it is not meant for someone staging their house nor if they are planning to sell in 5 years.  This is about decorating.  Decorating is taste specific and for those looking to enjoy their homes for a long time.  All that aside, one of the great things about hardwood flooring is that you can sand them and change the color.  This is one of the many many reasons, that hardwood is so versatile and will never go out of style.  The colors shift, but the hardwood is permanent.

Tamara - Yes, it is a fun product to work with.

Joan - Yes, it is unique and stunning.

Evelyn - Thx so much.  I'm glad you like them, too.

Dorte - Oh that would be really cool.

Bob - This is real hardwood...but it's engineered hardwood.  I'm hoping they come out with a solid version soon.

Liane - Good question.  It does have a 25 yr warranty and a bit of a distressed look, but it might show things a bit more.

Helen - You're welcome, and I'm glad you like it.

Karen - Glad you like it, and yes it prob. does show dirt a bit more.  But, it has only been out for a couple of years, so hard to say.

Cindy - Yes, it can really work for some styles (but not all)

Don - Thx for the kind words.  Yes, this is definitely a style choice and not right for everybody.  And, yes, there are many traditionalists out there.  Everything depends on the style of the home and the owner.  This is not right for everyone.  It is a stylized look.

Gene - Yes, that's what most people like...and we do that all that time.  And, it is beautiful.

WOW!  Those are some very pretty floors!  I do a lot of renovations in the lower end, $85k-$150k, so we rarely have the budget for something this nice.  However, we have found some great looking vinyl and laminate floors that look like hardwood, and buyers love them!  Hopefully one day we can step up into the big leagues.
