I've never heard of a quarter auction, JoAnn. What's the paddle for? And glad you won somethings.

Hi Toni, The Quarter Auctions are very popular up here in Delaware. You usually pay $15 for admission and get a $10 roll of quarters back plus a paddle with a number on it. There are lots of vendors selling their wares at tables they man. Each vendor donates three items to be used for the fundraising. Plus they put four more into the line up of auctioned items and they get the money from those bids. The night I went, there were 104 items being auctioned off. You have a chance to take a look atthe items and mark on the list provided the ones you would like to bid on. Each time something is up for bid, everyone bids the same amount announced by the caller. Bids are only 1 - 4 quarters. You put your quarters in a bowl on the table and hold up your numbered paddle. The caller pulls out numbers and calls them off. You win if your number is called. The fire company auxillary had hotdogs and sodas for sale. A baker had cupcakes, brownies and chocolate dipped pretzels for sale. There were bowls of salty snacks on the table. At intermission, the ladies auxillary provided free veggies and dip and vegetable pizza. It's affordable and fun.

JoAnn - this sound like great fun!  I had never heard of this before either!  The food sounds pretty darn good too, guess it is getting past my dinner!
