FAQ's: What happens if I don't do anything?

In my business, there are many questions.  I am in the business of Asset Recovery.  Specifically dealing with money that cannot often be found through a normal (or any search) on the Internet.

A question asked of me often is “What happens if I don’t do anything?”

Our standard answer: “If you choose to take no action, the asset will remain unclaimed.  In some states, if an asset is unclaimed for an extended period of time, it is often transferred to the state in which the asset resides negating any chances of recovery.  This process is called Escheating.”

Remember, inaction is in and of itself a form of action.  The state holding funds that may belong to you figures that after a period of time, if you don’t want the funds (whether you know about them or not) then, they, as a state can use that money for a higher purpose.

Notice that in the word escheating is the word CHEAT.  The county and/or state that is holding your money doesn’t really want to give it back to you.  They’re using those funds as they see fit and by you getting back YOUR money, you’re essentially taking out of their fund the use of that money.

It makes no difference to them that it’s yours.

You can go to www.USFinancialFunding.com and click on the bottom where it shows a picture of the United States and look for money for free for you, your wife, family and friends.  I offer this as a free service because this is not the money that we deal with.

The funds that our company deals in are not the typical funds that can be found on some of the websites mentioned below, or even on any of the additional “Lost Money” websites.

In some instances it can take up to 36 months (depending on the state) to get paid.  Many times, we act as a Settlement Funding Company, we pay the Claimant now and we wait for the money at a future date.  Many of our client’s (called Claimants) want their cash now because they understand that cash today is worth more than cash tomorrow.

Most of the money that we find for people (which is $10,000 or more) cannot be found on any website.  I know it is hard to believe, however, it is very true.  This is why everything that we do is through attorneys located in the state where the funds are located and we are members of good standing with the Better Business Bureau.

Jeffrey: Good post.  Here in Michigan, the time-limit for escheating is two years.  In the title industry we deal with this quite a bit.  You may (or may not) be surprised at how much money gets turned over to the state from our escrow account because of uncashed checks.  Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!

Hi Andrew,

It IS amazing at how much money goes back to the state.  A big part of the problem is that that state makes minimal efforts in any really at all to get the funds back to the rightful owners.  In this way, they get to keep over 90% of the funds!

Get in touch with me, I have a few ideas that I'd like to discuss with you that may prove beneficial to both of us.
