I recently took the 'Lead Safe Work Practices' class that the contractors here in New York should be taking. This certification is needed for any contractor that works on your house and disturbs more than 6 square feet of surface if painted with lead based paint. Disturbing old paint, and creating dust can contaminate your living space, and is a serious hazard for infants and children.
This training I took for one reason only - for my own personal education and knowledge. I already have all the Continuing Education credits I need to keep my license, so I did not need to take this course. Like many of the professionals I see at my monthly home inspectors meeting, we go above and beyond for our education and breadth of knowledge. Many inspectors are satisfied with just what is required, and others are not.
Many inspectors like myself get continuing education credits they do not need. This shows the real difference between the established inspectors, and the rest of the competition.
