The unofficial official start of Summer!

Mimosa Blooms in Fayette County GAAs wispy feathered tendrils stir
On windy wafts of steamy air,
‘Tis Summer’s showy blooms, a sight!
Mimosa fireworks pierce the light!

Although we don’t technically observe the Solstice until June 20, Memorial Day Weekend is often touted as the “official” start of Summer.

And in Newnan Georgia, there are plenty of good reasons to kick off Summer with a bang. School is out, the heat is on, and there is plenty to see and do in the region.

My favorite Summer place is Chattahoochee Bend State Park. It’s Georgia’s newest state park and it’s located along seven miles of the Chattahoochee River right here inCowetaCountyGeorgia!

Another amazing place is Callaway Gardens, which is typically thought of as a Spring destination. But Summer activities include swimming at the white sand beach, visiting the huge demonstration vegetable garden, or cycling the miles of paved trails that meander through the garden.

West Point Lake offers 25,900 acres of Summer fun for boaters, anglers, swimmers, picnickers and campers. With 525 miles of shoreline, it has numerous public access points inWest Georgia and Easter Alabama.

You can visit Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Little White House in Warm Springs. The late president came to Warm Springs for therapeutic treatment for polio, and died there in 1945.

Summer is here! Get out and enjoy it!

Richard, thanks for sharing about the various attractions in the Newnan area. The West Point Lake sounds wonderful.

Richard - Summer is HERE! At least that is what it feels like in Orlando! Once the temperatures hit 90+, we consider summer to have arrived.

Enjoy yours! :)

Schools out for summer!!  You've got me singing that song!   What a lovely post...make me want to come and visit!  Enjoy your holiday weekend Richard!

PS Oddly enough our weather is very cool for Phx. 82 yesterday (normal high 90's) so we're loving it!  It won't last long as next week we're back in the 100's.

Unofficially it is a bit warm for today.  Close enough to summer for me.

We finally had the heat AND humidity today.  And, we were supposed to get gully-washers with flash flood warnings for our area.  It hasn't developed yet...but with the temperature dropping twenty degrees tonight, tomorrow we will wonder where summer disappeard to again!
