Although we don’t technically observe the Solstice until June 20, Memorial Day Weekend is often touted as the “official” start of Summer.
And in Newnan Georgia, there are plenty of good reasons to kick off Summer with a bang. School is out, the heat is on, and there is plenty to see and do in the region.
My favorite Summer place is Chattahoochee Bend State Park. It’s Georgia’s newest state park and it’s located along seven miles of the Chattahoochee River right here inCowetaCountyGeorgia!
Another amazing place is Callaway Gardens, which is typically thought of as a Spring destination. But Summer activities include swimming at the white sand beach, visiting the huge demonstration vegetable garden, or cycling the miles of paved trails that meander through the garden.
West Point Lake offers 25,900 acres of Summer fun for boaters, anglers, swimmers, picnickers and campers. With 525 miles of shoreline, it has numerous public access points inWest Georgia and Easter Alabama.
You can visit Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Little White House in Warm Springs. The late president came to Warm Springs for therapeutic treatment for polio, and died there in 1945.
