Today we observed another fact of life on the "flag football" field.
In the ninety degree heat we had staked out a shady spot with a good vantage point.
As the wind provided a temperature break, we watched our grandson make a spectacular run.
As he ran something tripped him up. He fell hard and rolled. Somewhere in the process he hit his head. It was a substantial whack!
So much for low contact sports.
The time he was down seemed like an eternity. Eventually his Dad went to the sideline, got a bottle of water and an Ice pack.
Alec was then escorted to the side line. His Dad squirted him with a substantial amount of ice water. He continued to sit on the side and the game was resumed.
A very few minutes later another of the players went down. I never saw what hit him. He also laid on the field for quite a while.
If this is what the kids consider low contact, I shudder to think what tackle football will involve.
When it became clear that the second injured player could not continue, Alec was approached to see if he felt up to finishing the game.
There was only five minutes left and Alec did go back in.
Although the team is made up of 5 young men, having three uninjured means game over.
In our business each player is infinitely valuable. There cannot be substitutions. Each job has become very specialized.
Just as in the sports world, every person we work with has special knowledge and skills.
It is on our best interests to keep all the players healthy, happy and protected against all harm.
A team is only as strong as the weakest player. Guard each other! You truly are your "brothers/sisters keeper!
