Inspector Profile: Jerry Arnold, Houston, TX

By
Home Inspector with U.S. Inspect, LLC

Every day hundreds of homes across the USA are inspected by our employee inspectors. We want to recognize the work they do and allow you to become more familiar with the U.S. Inspect home inspectors you may encounter. Meet Jerry Arnold from our Houston, Texas area inspection team!

Tell our audience why you like home inspecting. "I like the fulfillment I get when participating in helping others make an educated decision about whether they should buy or not buy a house. Over 5000 inspections ago I went with a friend, an inspector, and watched him as he inspected and interacted with his client. I was hooked right there on the spot! My friend was not only working and making a good living for himself and his family, but he was actually doing something positive; helping one family at a time to better themselves."

What do you do when not at work? "I love doing the handyman things; fixing, repairing, building things. It seems I always have a large list of projects to do around the house or for my daughters that live nearby. Occasionally, I like to get on the tennis court and knock the fuzz off the balls (tennis talk). Finally, I love to read. Usually, I'm in the middle of 4 or 5 books at one time. Fiction is not my forte, but political, autobiographies, psychology, and even history are all interests."

Who inspires you most in your life? "During my days of active service in the Marine Corp, I was once assigned to kitchen duty for an entire month. I was a private at the time and the Marines were always looking for volunteers. So, they volunteered me! During that occasion the person in charge of the kitchen was a Sailor everyone called Mac. He was stern but extremely caring. Mac became my mentor not only for that month but for several decades afterward. He became a 2nd Dad. He inspired me to go forward and make something of my life and always pointing me to his God whenever I needed help. His God later became my God."

What type of music might we find you listening to? "While traveling to my inspections, I'm usually listening to one of four talk radio stations I have programmed into my truck radio. I like being up to date on what is going on around town or the nation. On the way home after a day of inspecting, I like soothing music to help me unwind."

What would you like to tell our readers about yourself? "During my years of college, I would spend the summer months working construction jobs to pay for college. I have to laugh now looking back and seeing that my summer jobs were, so to speak, my college training for what I have been doing for the last decade and a half; home inspections. I would also like to say I have three daughters and nine grandchildren. I've lived in California, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, and now Texas. I earned my BA in theology, and have been a pastor for many years."

Is there anything else you'd like to share? "Love those Dallas Cowboys!"
