It is a beautiful Memorial Weekend in Southwest Florida, and Fort Myers Beach is the place to be, to enjoy sunshine, gentle breezes, beautiful gulf waters and water sports!
My husband and I decided to spend a few hours at the beach this morning. I love to walk for exercise, and there is nothing better than walking the shore of Estero Island - at least in my opinion.
So we made the short drive to the island, parked and spent some time enjoying the weather, all of the beach goers having fun, and also took in a meal at the Pierside Grill. We always enjoy the Pierside because we can sit right at the edge of the beach under the shade of an umbrella table and enjoy both a great meal and a great view.
Although we were on the beach in late morning it was already buzzing with activity, as you can see in the photo above. The beach was actually made larger this year by adding a lot....I mean a LOT....of sand, and if you are familiar with Fort Myers Beach, I took this photo standing on the pier near Times Square, facing north. Speaking of the pier, there were also some much needed improvements made to that structure this year, too.

It looks great and is always an attraction for beach visitors and residents alike. Quite a bit of fishing takes place off the end of the pier.
Beach goers can do as much or as little as they like in Fort Myers Beach. Sit on the sand, read a book, take a nap, enjoy the view...you choose.
If water sports are on your list of activities to enjoy, you can ride jet skis, do some parasailing, take a dinner cruise or even spend some time on the casino boat.
Most of the time, I prefer to walk the beach and get my exercise. That's my entertainment :)
I took a photo of the Diamond Head Resort, which is always a distinctive landmark, both beach side and street side. The blue umbrellas were in full swing today!
Yes, it's a great time to be at Fort Myers Beach - Memorial Weekend 2012.
