So Close And Yet So Far!!!

Woke up this morning with childhood memories of playing with dolls and having tea parties with my younger sister Connie. Even though she was six years younger we were always able to find something to do together that had no age difference.

Today is Connie's birthday and as I think of her and how close we were when we were growing up it brings back all those good memories that I had with her. Sixteen years ago she moved away and now resides in North Dakota. Even though I have seen her in between those years and of course we talk on the phone, it's just not the same as living close and having the ability to just pop over to her house and see her.

My sister has always been an inspiration to me. She is so talented and creative and has always been so willing to help me out and teach me something new. I am so thankful for her and have always been grateful to have such a wonderful sister.

Many times when we are talking on the phone I tell her how much I miss her and that if she just lived closer that we could do all kinds of things together, go out to lunch, go shopping, go to the beach or even an overnight camping trip. We even talk about doing the same business together... if she just lived closer.

We are still close... yet we are so far away from each other!

Today I just wanted to wish a Happy Birthday to my very special sister Connie... I hope this day is extra special just like you are!

When I was a little girl, I so wanted a sister, I had 2 older brothers. I never did get my sister, but I do have a girl cousin who is nine months younger than me and lived close, so she stepped into my wanted "sister" role.

I am sure you sister will be humbled by your post.

Kathy, Funny I had wished I had a brother, but thankful I had two wonderful sister's. Tomorrow is my other sister's birthday, their birthday's were just a day apart. It was pretty cool. I also had a cousin who lived close by and she and I were close as well. Whenever we got together we would just laugh for hours.... not a word was spoken without a laugh in between.

Erv, thanks for the kind comment. My sister has been asking me to move to North Dakota for years.... then I talk to her in the winter months and hear how cold it is and say: yes the prices of homes are better there than California but I would make up the difference every month with heating my home. Living in the San Francisco Bay Area my whole life I don't think I could adjust to that kind of weather. Have a great weekend Erv!

Linda, happy belated birthday to your sister. I think that talent runs in your family. I wish I had such a kind sister as you are, but I have only a brother and with guys it is different. Anyway it is hard to live far away form your loved ones. Yes we all have this technology and talk on the phone or Skype but we miss a real hug and kiss or maybe just a quiet time next to each other.

Hi Linda,

This was a lovely post. I love the beautiful rose but the words were just so exceptional. So wonderful to always have those friends and siblings that will be there forever. I have a special friend and we worked together for many years and just shared a birthday with her 2 weeks ago. We talk on FB but I hadn't seen her in 7 years and it was just like we had just seen each other yesterday. Those bonds cannot be broken.
