Homes for Heroes sincerely hopes that everyone enjoys a wonderful Memorial Day today. Although most of us are lucky enough to have the day off –gathering with family and friends, enjoying a sojourn up at the cabin, firing up the grill for the traditional holiday barbeque–let us remember that today is not a day to celebrate ourselves, but rather a day to honor the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives on our behalf and on the behalf of our country.
If Independence Day is an occasion to bask in patriotism and national pride and exalt in our myriad accomplishments and prized freedoms, then Memorial Day serves as an occasion to thank all those who have given their lives to protect such cherished values, the countless soldiers who have died serving our nation and fighting for her people, so that we might continue to enjoy the sweet fruits of freedom and independence.
It is our distinct honor at Homes for Heroes to recognize the many sacrifices made by heroes from all walks of life and to serve them to the best of our abilities everyday. Today we recognize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, a sacrifice which we could never repay: the lives lost for the benefit of our country and our countrymen.
Honor those lives and the individuals who lost them today. One day each year is an infinitesimally small tribute to those who gave up all the rest of their own days for you and I.
