Amarillo Up for Public Discussion on Parks & Recreation Master Plan

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

Local Amarillo residents will have more chances to get in on the conversation about the Parks & Recreation master-plan in Amarillo, TXThis discussion could drive the city’s parks and recreation priorities for up to five years.  Therefore, all discussions on new parks, park improvements, park maintenance and water conservation will be open to the public at 7:00pm on May 29 at Woodlands Elementary and again on June 5th at East Branch Library at 7:00pm.

Amarillo needs to get your input about two of four master-planned parks. Discussions will include improvement to athletic fields, park security, playground equipment upgrades, and big ticket projects.  This is a great opportunity to give your input about what can be done and what needs to be done to the city’s public parks.  This opportunity only comes every 5 years, so don’t miss out.

The City of Amarillo currently has plans to develop five additional parks between now and 2017 as Amarillo gets newer neighborhoods.  However, money is tight and the city cannot always do what they want and need to do. But, sometimes it is possible to do great things when the city can join in with projects, like when they joined the Amarillo Independent School District and Panhandle Aquatics in 2009 to split the cost of $60,000 for a feasibility study that showed adding an aquatic center could cost up to $15 million.

Your opinion is very important.  All gathered input will be compiled for the Amarillo Parks & Recreation Commission as they update the master plan in June.
