Ute Indian Museum...A Montrose, Colorado Must See Attraction. This museum has some really fabulous displays of artifacts and hands on learning for visitors of all ages. Here you will see the most complete collection of Ute Indian artifacts anywhere. The building is on the original homestead of Chief Ouray and his wife Chipeta, and there's a walking tour of the grounds that includes Ouray and Chipeta's home site and a garden of native plants.
The Ute Indian Museum in Montrose, Colorado also has a collection of modern crafts from local Native American's...thus bringing together the old and the new for an truly overall experience.
The building was expanded in 1998 and also has a Visitor Center. This is a great place to get brochures on other area attractions and events. Over 18,000 people come through the museum every year.
