I think I achieve balance in life by taking time to love living the beach life style in my island city of Alameda CA.
Fun in the sun
I live in Alameda CA. It’s an island of approximately 70,000 people. Yes, we have a fabulous beach with fantastic views of San Francisco. We’re surrounded by many marinas. The climate is heavenly. Today, it was windy, sunny and clear, around 61 degrees. This was a day avid kite boarders dream of --- and dozens of them showed up on the beach, dotting the blue sky with brightly-colored kites.
...What could be more enjoyable than that proverbial walk on and by the beach?
...What could be more relaxing than walking the dogs with someone you love?
...Best of all, I didn’t have to go out of town to have a grand old time.
… Living in my island city is like living in a resort.
Oh, joy!
Furthermore, my phone didn’t ring once during that walk . Seems like my clients are taking the time off, too, and achieving balance in their lives as well.
More fun in the sun
I have already marked my calendar for the sand castle bulding contest and the outdoor summer concerts at Crab Cove.
My idea of “fun in the sun” took on a different meaning due to recent circumstances.
Last year, my 87-year old mother became seriously ill and was in and out of the hospital. We nearly lost her a couple of times. As such, it was not advisable for me to leave for an extended period of time, not knowing what may happen in my absence. A year later, Mom is doing so much better, and is able to get around using either a walker or a cane.
Yesterday, I wanted to get them out of the house and do something different. I took them to Berkeley Bowl -- one of the largest and finest organic grocery stores in Berkeley, featuring a multitude of varieties of fruits and vegetables. Ever see a vegetable called the Hand of Buddha?
We had a blast. For us, it was like a vacation.
….We were exploring so it was like an adventure
....We were seeing new things
....We were delighted with every discovery.
… We were having a very good time!
… We capped the day with lunch at one of our favorite sushi places.
These, to me, are my most enjoyable moments with my family.
And the most fun in the sun
