Happy Grilling Phoenicians!

Outdoor Grilling:
Staying Safe

If you were like me, you were called into action to do some outdoor grilling over the holiday weekend.  Seems like celebrations, especially during the  summer months, are always accompanied by great food cooked on a grill.

Looking for a new home for your grill? Contact Gene Mundt, Mortgage Lender today!    Grilling safely is obviously very important.   I receive information and educational alerts provided by  Consumer Reports.  In the May 3rd  Safety Alert  newsletter, they provided a listing of grilling safety tips to follow.

It came to me while flipping burgers this last weekend, that passing on the tips from this helpful newsletter, could prove very helpful and timely ... and just might prevent some future accidents or injury.

So, here you go.  Hope they keep your celebrations incident-free!

Consumer Reports Grilling
Safety Tips - 2012

  •   NEVER use a grill indoors ... due to carbon monoxide (CO) and fire hazards.
  •   Use the grill at least 10 feet away from your house or any building.  DO NOT USE the grill IN a garage, breezeway, carport, porch, or under a surface that will burn.
  •   Always follow the instructions that accompany the grill.
  •   Keep a kitchen fire extinguisher nearby.
  •   Never leave a grill unattended.
  •   If a flare-up occurs, adjust the controls on the gas grill or spread-out the coals on a charcoal grill to lower the temperatures.
  •   If a grease fire occurs, turn-off the gas grill and use Baking Soda and/or a kitchen fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
  •   Keep children away from the grill.  The outside surface of the grill can get hot and cause burns when touched.
  •   Make sure there are no lighted cigarettes, marches, or open flames near a leaking grill.
I would add an extra note:  Extra caution and safety measures should be in place when you have small children in attendance at-or-near a grilling area.

I've also included a video from the  National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)  that covers safety tips for propane tanks, used by many on their  grills.  From filling, to transportation, to actual usage, remain vigilant, cautious, and safe when using these tanks.

Hope these grilling safety tips, links, and videos prove beneficial to you and your entire family whenever you choose to grill in the future.

Please remember ... enjoy all your upcoming summer celebrations safely!

Hi Anna, great information, especially where children are involved. We get busy with everything and a

child can go unnoticed and be hurt near a grill. Thanks for sharing.

With all of the grilling going on, these are some great safety tips.  In fact, I am quite sure our grill is closer to the house than it needs to be...hmm, will have to talk to my hubby about that.

Anna, thanks for the reblog. I would have missed this one.

BBQ safety is very important this time of year. Too often people get caught it in the festivities and not focus on the potential danger.

Hi Anna,

This is a wonderful post as most of us barbecue nightly unless in really cold weather. I enjoyed reading Gene's comments and tips. Thanks so much for the re-blog.

Have a great week.

Hi Anna Banana- thank you for this reblog- great tips I wish everyone could read and I never though about have a fire extinguisher nearby.  I'd hate to ruin dinner with one , but if it's on fire it's probably already ruined anyway :-]
