Eating at Houston's in North Miami Beach, Florida

By
Real Estate Agent with Majestic Properties 3061802

Houston's is a chain of restaurants that can be found throughout the United States.  It is known for the great steaks and healthy side dishes like asparagus, baked potatoes, eggplant, etc.  Every time we visit one of these restaurants, they are packed with people and you can expect to wait for a table.  It also has a full bar and the architecture and interior design of each establishment, although similar in style, is unique and welcoming.

HOUSTON'S RESTAURANTWe have gone to the North Miami Beach Houston's a couple of dozen times but need to tell you about our last visit.  Rick and I went with our 3 kids who are 12, 10 and 2 years of age.  To our surprise, although a lot of people were waiting for tables, there was a table for 5 available and that's when we met our server, Javier.

Javier was a real joy; he was helpful, available, courteous, funny and offered the best service we have ever had at Houston's.  He refilled the kids' Sprites at least a half a dozen times (the kids were in Javier Heaven), he brought us a booster for our little one immediately, and a covered drink, he was timely with the order and kept asking us if we were satisfied.  What a pleasure....we'll make sure to ask for Javier every time we go back.  One funny thing that happened was that the kids kept saying that Javier had a twin (I thought the kids were being cute and confusing the waiters because they were dressed the same)....but they were right, Javier's twin brother, Alvaro, also works in the same restaurant.  What an eye those kids have.....I wonder who they get it from.

This is what we ate, for those of you that are interested:  Rick had grilled Salmon with brown rice, I had the NY Strip with brussel sprouts, our oldest had a Sashimi Tuna Salad, the middle one had a Racquet Club Turkey Sandwich with fries and the little one had a little of everything.  Rick and I also drank a Mojito.  The food was excellent and the service even better.  Thank you Javier for making our experience so memorable.

Houston's Restaurant is located at 17355 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami Beach, Florida

ok, I'm out the door, but didn't want to leave you waiting.. I'll respond in the PM, today.

I had to take a picture to explain it properly.. The black dot represents the place where you touch (with your other hand's index finger) to feel the hardness or softness that must match the feel the meat or steak.  (I couldn't take the picture AND show you with both hands.. DUH!!)

You can alternate between fingers touching your THUMB. Keep your finger on the dot, or press it in between changing fingers.  (your hand may not have a black dot ;)

see photo to right:

RARE- Index to thumb.. touch the black dot and that is what RARE feels like.
MEDIUM RARE-(as in photo) Middle finger to THUMB
MEDIUM - next finger to THUMB
WELL - pinky to THUMB.

pretty cool, eh? try it at your next BBQ, make your guess and cut it open. I like to see who wants medium-rare and then try it. If it cooked too much you give it to the guy who wants it medium.

ok, enough.. bye.

HA HA HA HA HA  I wonder how many of us actually tried that finger thing, Nick.  I'm not too proud to admit that I did!  I had never heard that.  Ingenious.  Something new for me to talk about at the next BBQ.  that is, if I can get these consumers to talk about something other than real estate!

Ines, Coral Gables' not such a trek for me, I'll keep it in mind.  Thanks!

Hiy Ines.. the dot in on the meaty part below my thumb, which is borderline on the palm of the hand also.. see it? Ok, I'll update the picture. Hey Maggie.. don't be ashamed to try it. you can admit it! ;)

I figure you and Rick and Maggie and Myself with the wife can go eat steaks and hold our fingers to your thumbs and touch each others steak to see if it works.. haha!!  I was in Miami yesterday, so I'm around.

Come up to the fair on Saturday Ines.. The South Florida fair.. your kids will love it.

Ines - now I'm STARVING!!!!!  I love to read about different restaurants - thanks for telling us about this one.

Nick - I love that tip!  I had actually learned that a long time ago from a former boyfriend who worked in restaurants, but had forgotten all about it.  Thanks!!

hey I just stopped by the PC and saw your comments. Ann, I'm glad you confirmed that it exists,. so Ines desn't think I'm messing with her head.. (at least not this time). and Ines, as another of my favorite sayings goes... "Good Tip"... (which I enjoy using since it can be used seriously, sarcastically or mumbled within my thoughts).

good advice-  be careful at that instersectoin "hey, good tip!"

obvious advice - stack the heavy boxes on the bottom "yeah, good tip!

useless advice - agent reminds me of protocol when I'm fully aware of it,.. (mumbled within my thoughts-> "yeah, good tip.")

I love Houston's... the one in Boca is good... but the one in North Miami beach is ON THE WATER... great!

Noah PodgurskyThey are great with my son - Noah - he's 13 months now...

They do have a few sister restaurants in North Carolina, Atlanta and they are also owners of THE PALM BEACH GRILL on Palm Beach Island.  That would be a great day shopping trip for those people who want to stroll along Worth Avenue and see Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago or play a round of golf in PGA.  Check out www.hillstone.com for all their restaurants and locations!

I love Houston's too David, and the meat is delicious, it's a nice place for kids because of the noise level.  We need to get our little ones together.

Houston's has stone crabs?  REALLY?  I go to a a fish joint near by in North Miami called Captain Jim's (Captain Jim and his wife Raegan are friends).  He is a fisherman and his stone crabs are fresh and delicious!  Let's all go on a play date - we need to invite Maggie too!
